The convoy of former Anambra State Governor and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reportedly been attacked in Calabar, Cross River State, by suspected political thugs.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, shortly after Obi arrived in the state capital alongside his wife, Margaret, and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, for a town hall meeting.
Ester Umoh, a media aide to the NDC presidential candidate, raised the alarm over the incident in a social media post, alleging that hoodlums were attempting to attack the convoy.
“Thugs are trying to attack our convoy,” Umoh wrote.
The reported attack has raised fresh concerns over the safety of political candidates and their supporters as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The incident also came barely two months after Obi’s convoy reportedly encountered a similar disruption in Benue State, where suspected thugs blocked Boko Road near an Air Force Base in an attempt to prevent him from gaining access to the state.
However, details surrounding Wednesday’s incident, including the identities of those allegedly involved, the extent of the attack and whether anyone was injured, were not immediately available.
