The Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, has removed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Abuloma Division and the Divisional Officer overseeing the Abuloma Police Outpost after suspected cultists renovated the police facility and threw a party to celebrate the project.

Trouble started for the two senior officers after a video went viral on social media showing suspected cult members visiting the Abuloma Police Outpost on Thursday, October 15, 2026, to jubilate and mark the completion of the renovation work they allegedly financed.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Agabe Kaborlo, confirmed that both officers have been issued official queries and relieved of their duties pending the outcome of a full investigation ordered by the Commissioner of Police.

Kaborlo said the Command strongly condemns any action or association capable of compromising the integrity, discipline, and professional standards of the Nigeria Police Force, or giving legitimacy and recognition to suspected cult groups and other unlawful organisations.

According to the police spokesperson, police facilities are public institutions established to protect citizens and enforce the law, and must not become platforms through which criminal groups seek public validation or influence.

He stated that under the leadership of CP Adepoju, the Command maintains zero tolerance for criminality and any conduct that undermines public confidence in the police.

Kaborlo explained that the investigation will uncover the identities and backgrounds of the individuals or groups who financed or facilitated the renovation, as well as the police officers who authorised the project.

The probe will also establish whether due procedures and security checks were followed, whether any officer breached professional standards, and the extent of involvement by police personnel attached to the division.

While noting that the Force welcomes legitimate community support to improve police facilities in line with Section 26(1)(d) of the Nigeria Police Act 2020, the Command insisted that such gestures must never compromise police independence, security, or professional standards.

The Command stressed that no donation or assistance grants anyone immunity from investigation or prosecution, vowing that appropriate disciplinary and legal action will be taken against anyone found culpable at the end of the probe.
