The Lagos State Government has announced a 35-day rehabilitation of Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, from the Adetokunbo Ademola/Civic Centre junction to Samuel Manuwa/BJ, beginning Monday, October 19, 2026, with alternative routes mapped out to minimise traffic disruption.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the rehabilitation would require temporary traffic diversions to allow construction work to proceed while maintaining movement for motorists along the busy corridor.

Osiyemi said a contra-flow arrangement would be introduced on the Lagos-bound side of the road, from Samuel Manuwa to Adetokunbo Ademola/Civic Centre, while work was carried out on the opposite lane.

He stated that motorists travelling from Bonny Camp and Falomo towards Civic Centre and Lekki should use Adeyemo Alakija Street by Muri Okunola Park, connect to Adeola Hopewell Street, proceed through Akinbo Savage Street and link Bishop Aboyade Cole Street.

Osiyemi added that motorists should then connect to the expressway from School Corner, near Black Diamond, towards Sandfield. Alternatively, they could use Bishop Aboyade Cole Street to reach School Corner and continue towards Sandfield.

For motorists travelling from Falomo towards Akin Adesola, Osiyemi advised them to pass through IMB and connect to the Coastal Road entrance through Adetokunbo Ademola Road, proceed to Eko Hotel Roundabout, and continue through Ajose Adeogun and Ligali streets towards Black Diamond School Corner.

He stated that motorists leaving Bonny Camp should use Ahmadu Bello Way to connect to Eko Hotel Roundabout through the IMB/Coastal Road entrance. They should then proceed through Bishop Aboyade Cole Street and the Adetokunbo Ademola/Eko Hotel Roundabout corridor before connecting to Ajose Adeogun and Ligali streets towards Black Diamond School Corner.

Osiyemi further explained that motorists travelling from Eko Hotel through Adetokunbo Ademola Road towards Civic Centre would be diverted through Bishop Aboyade Cole Street and School Corner, near Black Diamond, towards Sandfield.

He added that motorists exiting through the 1004 gate, alongside other road users and stakeholders operating along the route, would be directed to turn left or make a U-turn in front of the gate before proceeding through Bishop Aboyade Cole Street towards School Corner and Sandfield.

For motorists travelling from Eko Hotel towards Falomo and Ikoyi, Osiyemi said the alternative route would be through Sanusi Fafunwa Street, linking Akin Adesola Street and proceeding towards the ramp bridge.

The commissioner stated that the government would deploy officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) to coordinate vehicle movement, reduce congestion and minimise inconvenience during the rehabilitation.

He said the deployment would also support traffic management as preliminary works on the project commenced at VGC.

Osiyemi urged motorists to plan their journeys ahead, obey traffic officials and cooperate with the temporary traffic arrangements to ensure smoother movement during the construction period.

He reiterated the state government’s commitment to managing traffic disruption and ensuring the rehabilitation work proceeds with minimal inconvenience to road users.
