The leadership of the Accord Party has declared support for Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, over his decision to back President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
The party’s Board of Trustees (BOT) in a statement was signed by Dr. Samson Isibor, said Governor Adeleke, who is its national leader, has the full backing of the party in his role as coordinator of President Tinubu’s 2027 campaign in Osun State.
Recall that Adeleke were among three leaders of opposition parties appointed into President Bola Tinubu’s campaign team inaugurated last Wednesday.
The others are FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike (PDP) governors, Chukwuma Soludo (APGA)of Anambra State.
However, two persons, Oke Sewedo and Oladeji Oluwatosin, who claimed to be leaders of the Accord in Lagos West and Lagos State had in a statement, criticized the appointment of Adeleke into the APC presidential campaign team.
The duo, operating under the name Concerned Leaders of Accord, Lagos State, had asked Governor Adeleke to clarify his political allegiance following his appointment as Tinubu’s campaign coordinator in Osun.
But dismissing the statement, the BOT described Sewedo and Oluwatosin as impostors who do not represent the party.
According to the BOT, there is no recognised group known as Concerned Leaders of Accord in Lagos State, and the public should disregard their statement.
It clarified that only the National Chairman, Barr. Maxwell Mgbudem, and the BOT Chairman, Rev. Isaac Adeniyi, are authorised to speak officially for the party at the national level.
The Accord Party’s BOT commended President Tinubu for appointing Adeleke to lead his campaign in Osun, noting that the governor has the capacity to mobilize support beyond the state.
It added that Accord members nationwide will work for the President’s re-election in 2027.
Meanwhile, a chieftain of APC, Chief Sam Onuigbo, has hailed the inclusion of Soludo, Wike and Adeleke in President Bola Tinubu’s campaign team.
He said the inclusion of some leaders of the opposition in the APC presidential campaign team was a reflection of democracy in action.
The former House of Reps member noted that trio were strong supporters of President Bola Tinubu’s administration
“Democracy is a system of government that does not use force of the barrel of the gun but applies consensual and understanding.
“The bottom line is having a good government that works to provide the highest happiness for the highest number of people which Wike and others have seen and aligned with,” Onuigbo said.
Onuigbo, in an interview with NAN, scored Tinubu high in the areas of economy and reforms such as the students’ loan scheme, Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), the harmonisation of exchange rate and the removal of fuel subsidy.
He added that fuel subsidy removal had produced additional resources for the Federal Government and sub-national governments to deploy in delivering dividends of democracy to the citizenry.
“Tinubu has placed Nigeria on the path of prosperity with increase in GDP, where the GDP is now out pacing the nation’s population rate.
Onuigbo reiterated his confidence in the preparedness of Tinubu to enhance Nigeria’s place in the comity of nations if re-elected.
