Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will secure victory in the 2027 Ogun State governorship election, claiming opposition parties will be left without a strong political platform by election day.
Adeola, who is seeking the APC governorship ticket, made the statement on Wednesday at an interfaith prayer organised by the party’s Campaign Council in Ogun State.
The event, themed “Victory with God,” brought together Christian and Muslim faithful who prayed for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC and the party’s candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
Addressing supporters at the gathering, Adeola attributed his confidence in the APC’s electoral prospects to divine intervention, saying he believed God would clear the way for the party’s victory.
“That same God that will give us victory on January 16 will also support me to become the seventh Executive Governor of Ogun State,” he said.
The senator also dismissed the prospect of a strong opposition challenge, claiming rival political parties would be unable to mount an effective contest by the time Ogun voters go to the polls.
“God will give us victory and clear our path without a fight. Because there will be nobody contesting against us,” Adeola said, adding that opposition politicians were currently scrambling to organise themselves ahead of the election.
His comments came as the APC intensified preparations for the 2027 electoral cycle, with party leaders using the prayer gathering to rally members and supporters.
Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, who also attended the event, urged APC members to seek divine guidance as the party begins its preparations for the elections.
Abiodun said the gathering was designed to bring Christian and Muslim faithful together to pray for the party’s electoral journey.
“We have come here to gather, to pray, to sing, to dance, both Christians and Muslims, to seek the Almighty’s face and His grace as we embark on the 2027 electoral journey,” the governor said.
Reflecting on his emergence as governor in 2018, Abiodun described the political period as turbulent and said the experience strengthened his belief in the supremacy of God over political power.
He also highlighted what he described as achievements recorded by his administration over the past seven and a half years, including the state’s growing economic profile.
Abiodun further expressed hope that Ogun would maintain a peaceful political transition, citing what he described as the state’s first peaceful transition between a sitting governor and an incoming governor.
The prayer session was attended by APC leaders, supporters and religious faithful, including former Ogun governor and elder statesman Aremo Olusegun Osoba, Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly Oludaisi Elemide and state APC chairman Yemi Sanusi, among others.
Adeola’s comments are likely to draw attention as political parties and potential candidates begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 Ogun governorship election.
