Gwagwalada Unrest: Police Warn Farmers, Herders Against Retaliatory Attacks

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has appealed to farmers and herders in Dabiri and Paiko villages, Gwagwalada Area Council, to resist revenge attacks and embrace peaceful coexistence following reports of unrest between the two groups.

The appeal comes amid concerns that retaliatory violence could further threaten the safety of residents and disrupt daily activities in the affected communities.

The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, made the appeal on Monday during a meeting with leaders of the two groups at the FCT Police Command headquarters in Abuja.

Sanusi urged the farmers and herders to settle their differences through dialogue rather than violence, warning that incitement and retaliation could escalate tensions and put entire communities at risk.

He also called on the leaders to help identify and hand over those responsible for the attacks, stressing that the actions of a few individuals should not endanger the lives and security of other residents.

The police statement did not disclose what triggered the unrest, the number of people affected, whether anyone was injured or killed, or whether any suspects had been arrested.

The command, however, said normalcy had been restored and that security measures had been strengthened to prevent further violence.

It urged residents of Dabiri, Paiko and neighbouring communities to remain calm, cooperate with security personnel and resume their lawful activities without fear.
