The Kano State Police Command has arrested a suspected bandit accused of guarding and assaulting a kidnap victim in Falgore Forest, Doguwa Local Government Area, and recovered an AK-47 rifle with 18 rounds of live ammunition.
The arrest followed an earlier operation in which two suspected bandits were neutralised, N10m in ransom was recovered, and a kidnapped victim rescued, according to the police.
In a statement on Monday, the command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said operatives attached to the Doguwa Division, working with local hunters known as Yan Bula, carried out the follow-up operation.
He said the operatives combed Falgore Forest and its environs on Sunday in search of fleeing suspects and weapons.
The police identified the arrested suspect as Ibrahim Rabiu, a resident of Yardoka Village in Kubau Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Kiyawa said the rescued victim, identified as Alhaji Kabiru Aliyu of Falgore Village, identified Rabiu as one of his alleged captors.
“The rescued victim positively identified the suspect as the one who normally guarded him at night while in captivity, brought food to him and used to beat him mercilessly.”
The police spokesperson said the suspect had been transferred to the command’s Criminal Investigation Department, Anti-Kidnapping Squad, for further investigation.
He added that investigators were working to arrest the suspect’s fleeing accomplice and recover other items linked to the crime.
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the Yan Bula hunters for supporting security operations in the area.
The command urged residents to provide credible information to security agencies to assist efforts to tackle banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes.
