Former England youth international midfielder Tim Irogbenum is close to completing his international switch to Nigeria after obtaining a Nigerian passport.
The 23 year old has submitted the necessary documents to world football governing body FIFA to change his international allegiance from England to Nigeria.
According to OwnGoalNigeria.com, the documents include his newly acquired Nigerian international passport.
Irogbenum reportedly spoke with Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle before deciding to represent Nigeria. He is now hoping FIFA will approve the switch in time for him to be considered for Nigeria’s matches in November.
Chelle is looking to strengthen his midfield options, and Irogbenum could provide an additional choice for the Super Eagles.
The midfielder currently plays for Hull City and has experience in English football, having featured for Aston Villa and Everton before joining his current club.
Irogbenum is reportedly eager to join the Nigerian national team and hopes to represent the Super Eagles at the next Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
However, his participation in future matches will depend on FIFA’s approval of his international switch.
