Liverpool came from behind to beat Brentford 2-1 in the Premier League on Saturday after their hosts were reduced to nine players at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Brentford took the lead in the 44th minute when Keane Lewis-Potter scored a brilliant header from Igor Thiago’s cross.

However, the hosts suffered a major setback in first-half added time when midfielder Yehor Yarmoliuk was sent off for making a headbutting motion towards Liverpool defender Jeremy Jacquet. Referee John Brooks showed him a red card after the incident.

Brentford went into the break with a 1-0 lead but had to play the entire second half with 10 men.

Liverpool took advantage of their numerical superiority to turn the game around after the break.

Spanish winger Victor Munoz equalised for Liverpool in the 62nd minute. He received a pass from Florian Wirtz, cut inside and fired a left-footed shot past Brentford goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.

Eight minutes later, Alexander Isak put Liverpool ahead with a clinical finish to make it 2-1.

The goal came after Bradley Barcola headed down a cross from Alexis Mac Allister, allowing Isak to score his fifth goal of the season.

Brentford’s difficult afternoon worsened in stoppage time when Vitaly Janelt received a second yellow card for fouling Liverpool substitute Rio Ngumoha. His dismissal left the hosts with only nine players on the pitch.

Brentford had performed well in the first half and looked capable of securing a positive result before Yarmoliuk’s sending-off changed the game.

The red card forced manager Keith Andrews’ side to defend for long periods, while Liverpool grew stronger and eventually took all three points.

The victory highlighted the growing understanding between Isak and Barcola, who combined effectively in the move that produced Liverpool’s winning goal.
