United States President Donald Trump has said he has two different sets of intelligence assessments on Iran, adding that some information remains classified.
Trump made the remarks on Sunday when asked about an intelligence warning that Iran had stepped up efforts to target American personnel and that plots against US citizens had reached advanced stages.
“I have two very different sets,” he said, declining to disclose details of the other intelligence reports.
“We have very advanced sets of intelligence on Iran. Some has been declassified and some hasn’t,” Trump added, saying the United States was “doing very well” with Iran.
The remarks came after a warning from Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton, who said Iran had substantially increased efforts to target US personnel.
In a memo dated October 23 and sent to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Clayton said Iranian plots against American citizens had reached “advanced stages” in the Middle East and other countries.
The memo was also copied to Central Intelligence Agency Director John Ratcliffe, according to Reuters.
The warning comes amid escalating conflict involving Iran and Iran-aligned Houthi forces, as Washington reviews security arrangements at its diplomatic missions in the region.
US authorities have reduced staffing at their mission in Saudi Arabia and updated travel advisories for several countries across the Gulf and Middle East, citing heightened security threats.
Trump did not publicly disclose the details of the second intelligence assessment he referred to.
