US President Donald Trump has announced the creation of a new “Super Intelligence Force” to coordinate the Federal Government’s efforts on advanced artificial intelligence.

Trump announced the move in a post on his Truth Social account on Sunday, saying the force would coordinate the government’s engagement with technology companies, consumers, public interest groups, religious organisations and critical infrastructure providers.

The force will be led by Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton, alongside Federal Trade Commission Chairman Andrew Ferguson, Under Secretary of War for Research and Engineering and Chief Technology Officer Emil Michael, and Office of Personnel Management Director Scott Kupor.

Trump said the force was established following what he described as the “Historic White House Accord on Super Intelligence”, involving major technology companies.

He said the initiative would ensure that the United States maintains its lead in “Super Intelligence” while protecting the interests and improving the lives of Americans.

The group will report directly to Trump and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles.

According to Reuters, the force is expected to produce a report within 120 days examining the risks and opportunities associated with artificial intelligence and the role of the Federal Government.

Clayton is also expected to serve as the administration’s lead official on artificial intelligence as part of the new arrangement.

Trump said the force would also work with critical infrastructure providers and other groups on issues arising from the development and deployment of advanced AI systems.

The announcement comes as governments and technology companies continue to develop increasingly advanced AI systems, with growing attention on their potential applications and associated risks.
