President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Comrade Joe Ajaero, has described President Bola Tinubu’s administration as aloof, disconnected from the labour movement, and treating everyone as an enemy.

Ajaero made the remark on Saturday during an appearance on the Mic On Podcast, where he reflected on the NLC’s protest action in December 2025.

He said for over two years, the federal government has shown little interest in engaging the congress on workers’ welfare.

According to him, all efforts by the NLC to open dialogue with the presidency were ignored.

He disclosed that the congress wrote several letters to President Tinubu from May to December 2025 without getting any response.

The silence, he said, forced the labour body to fix December 17, 2025, for a nationwide protest.

“By December 17, 2025, we pulled out that we were going to the streets. After writing a letter from May to December to the president and there was no response, we fixed that date that we were going to the streets.

“And after that, some governors intervened, and we had an interface. So some governors met with us, and since that time, we have talked once or twice. And those issues, from December last year to now, they are just doing their business,” he said.

Ajaero explained that it was only after the protest date was announced that some state governors stepped in to mediate.

He said the intervention led to an interface between labour and government representatives.

He noted that since that meeting, there have been only one or two further engagements.

He lamented that key issues raised by workers since December last year have remained largely unattended to, with government carrying on as if nothing happened.

His remarks come amid a three-day warning strike declared by public servants under the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council.

The council is demanding a reduction of petrol price to N500 per litre and a new wage award for workers.
