President Bola Tinubu will on Thursday travel to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, to pray for Nigeria, the presidency has announced.

The trip is coming weeks after he returned from a four-week vacation in Europe.

Tinubu returned to Lagos from Paris, France, on September 29, following a vacation that began on August 30.

On returning to Nigeria, the president said he was ready to resume work and dismissed concerns about his health.

“Ready to kick, ready to work. There’s nothing wrong (with my health). Well, rumours will always emanate from politics. But the fact remains (that) I’m here—healthy, sound and ready to go,” he said.

His planned trip to Mecca comes as Nigeria continues to grapple with security challenges, economic hardship and pressure on the government to improve living conditions.

“The visit gives the President an opportunity for spiritual reflection, devotion, and prayers for Nigeria’s peace, unity, stability, and continued progress.

“While in Makkah, President Tinubu will perform the religious rites associated with Umrah, seeking Allah’s guidance and blessings for Nigeria and its people.

“Before leaving Abuja, President Tinubu will commission at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport some equipment acquired by the Nigerian Air Force for its operations.

“The President is expected back in the country next week, after completing the spiritual exercise,” said presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga.
