Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta has described President Bola Tinubu as a bold and courageous leader with strong determination to reposition Nigeria’s economy.
Oborevwori made the remark while flagging-off the State All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign for the 2027 general elections at Oleh Township Stadium, Isoko South Local Government Area of the state on Thursday.
He said that his decision to defect from his former party to APC in April 2025 was a well-thought out move, following consultations and prayers.
The governor said that his administration never witnessed the financial burden suffered by his predecessor, Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa, because the Tinubu-led government provided the financial relief which had enabled the states to remain solvent.
“Tinubu is a bold and courageous leader who is determined to leave a positive economic transformation in the country.
“What my predecessor went through, I am not going through that today. We are have enough money to execute projects, pay contractors and we are not owing.
“Tinubu na Better market; the minimum wage came and we complied. Today, local governments can execute contracts and even councillors now do empowerment.
“Currently, over 17,000 students have benefitted from the National Education Loan Find(NELFund), and in Delta, we have four universities with over 104,000 students enrollment; we encourage them to apply for the NELFUND loan,” Oborevwori said.
He added that the president had courageously addressed microeconomic issues in the areas of foreign reserve and exchange rate stabilistion.
The governor also said that Tinubu’s administration was committed to curbing insecurity in the country through decentralisation of the police and creation of more military divisions.
“Mr President has expanded the military divisions and for the state police, Delta has sent resolutions to the National Assembly, and we have approved the constitution of police headquarters in all 25 LGAs of the state, while waiting the president’s assent,” he said.
He urged the electorate to vote for Tinubu on Jan. 16, 2027 for a better Nigeria and sustainable development.
He said: “On Jan. 16 (2027), vote President Bola Tinubu and all the National Assembly candidates. With unity and cooperation, Delta should do above one million votes for the president.
“Here in Delta, I promised M.O.R.E Agenda and in my next four years, we shall have M.O.R.E Plus. We have done a lot in all sectors – health, education, human capital development.
Oborevwori, while appreciating Tinubu’s reforms, called on the people of Delta to vote en masse for APC candidates at national and state levels to consolidate the development already attained in the state.
In his remarks, the Deputy Governor, Monday Onyeme, thanked the people of the state for their support since 2023, while calling for more support for their second term bid.
“Vote President Tinubu to come back; vote for Gov. Oborevwori. They have done well and the achievements are visible.”
Former Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa, who is the 2027 APC candidate for Delta North Senatorial District, said it was not time to celebrate, but to go from door to door to deliver Mr President and all APC candidates in the forthcoming general elections.
“We can deliver over one million votes. When your votes speak loudly, then your voices will be loud; it is time to work.
“Nigeria’s foundation has been destroyed but President Tinubu is repairing rebuilding it. We need to support him to do well and fix the country,” he said.
Okowa called on the people of Delta to vote, defend their votes and ensure that results were declared in their presence, adding that the state could do more than a million votes for the president.
Other APC chieftains, including Chief Solomon Ogba and O’tega Omeran, pledged their support for the party, saying it had no rival in the state.
The State APC Party Chairman, Chief Solomon Arenyeka, Sen. James Manager, the party’s campaign Director-General, Julius Pondi, Youth Representative and others urged the youth and women to vote for the party in order to deepen development in the state.
On his part, the APC National Publicity Secretary, Mr Felix Morka, said Tinubu was committed to fixing the country, while Oborevwori had impacted the state positively with the funds made available by the president.
“So, go out there and vote for President Tinubu and Gov. Oborevwori in January and February 2027,” he said.
The high point of the occasion was the handing over of the party’s flag to candidates in the Isoko area of the state by the state APC chairman.
