Security guard docked for allegedly stealing car spare parts

A security guard, Ishaya Alkali, was on Wednesday docked in a Life Camp Magistrates’ Court in Abuja for allegedly 20 pieces of imported car spare parts worth N10 million.

The police charged Alkali, who resides in Life Camp in Abuja with theft.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecution Counsel, Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that the defendant was apprehended by policemen, who were on patrol duty on Sept 30.

Nwachukwu said that on the same date, about 9 p.m the defendant was caught at Enoch’s Court, Life Camp, with 20 pieces of imported car spare parts.

She said that the defendant was employed to guard the site.

The prosecutor said that the Site Manager, told the police that other items had been reported missing.

She said, during Police investigation, the defendant admitted to stealing other things from the site.

The Defence Counsel, Effort Omon, applied for bail for his client, citing Sections 158 and 162 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015.

The prosecutor said the offence contravenes Section 287 of the Penal Code Law.

Magistrate Ramlatu Yusuf, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum N500,000 with one surety in like sum.

Yusuf ordered that the surety must be a Civil Servant not be below GL07 and must provide a reliable means of identification.

She adjourned the matter until Nov 4 for hearing.(NAN)
