NBA star Jayson Williams' estranged wife claims he owes massive amount Of unpaid child support

Tanya Young Williams has filed for divorce from former NBA All-Star Jayson Williams, alleging that he owes hundreds of thousands of dollars in unpaid child support, according to court records obtained by TMZ.

The filing was made on Monday, October 5, in New York, 17 years after Tanya first sought to end their marriage. The earlier divorce proceedings were never finalised. Speaking to TMZ, the former “Basketball Wives LA” cast member alleged that Jayson provided no financial support for their two daughters between his imprisonment in 2010 and his release in 2012.

She said payments began following a settlement in 2015 but stopped two years later, leaving him “hundreds of thousands of dollars in arrears.” Tanya also alleged that Jayson had been absent from their daughters’ lives for years and had not responded to their repeated attempts to contact him.

She said efforts to resolve the dispute with his representatives had been unsuccessful, prompting her to seek court intervention to hold him “legally and financially accountable.” The couple married in 2000 and share two daughters, Tryumph and Whizdom Williams. One of their daughters publicly criticised Jayson in an open letter in 2022.

Their marriage came under public scrutiny after Jayson was charged over the 2002 shooting death of limousine driver Costas “Gus” Christofi. Tanya supported him during the legal proceedings but filed for divorce in 2009, alleging cruel treatment, threats against her and their daughters, alcohol abuse and infidelity.

Jayson’s lawyer denied those allegations at the time and accused Tanya of making false claims to pressure him into a settlement. Jayson later pleaded guilty to aggravated assault in connection with Christofi’s death and served time in prison. He played 11 seasons in the NBA with the Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Nets.
