The Police Service Commission (PSC) has promoted the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, from the rank of Superintendent of Police (SP) to Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), alongside more than 3,800 other senior police officers.
Adeh’s promotion was approved during the Commission’s plenary meeting on Thursday in Abuja, alongside the elevation of two Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs), 10 Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) and 17 Commissioners of Police (CPs).
The PSC said the promotions followed the successful performance of the affected officers in promotion examinations and oral interviews conducted by the Commission.
In a statement issued in Abuja, the PSC Head of Protocol and Public Relations, Torty Njoku Kalu, said the meeting was presided over by the Commission’s Chairman, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (retd.).
Adeh, who serves as the spokesperson of the FCT Police Command, was among the beneficiaries promoted in the category covering officers elevated from SP to CSP.
Her promotion comes amid the FCT Command’s responsibility for public communication on security incidents, police operations and crime prevention across Abuja and its surrounding communities.
The Commission also approved the promotion of Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, spokesperson of the Adamawa State Police Command, from SP to CSP.
At the highest level, AIG Olaolu Adegbite, head of the INTERPOL National Central Bureau in Abuja, and AIG Dankombo F. Morris, head of Zone 4 Headquarters in Makurdi, were promoted to Deputy Inspector-General of Police.
Ten Commissioners of Police were elevated to AIGs, while 17 Deputy Commissioners of Police were promoted to Commissioners of Police.
Other promotions approved by the Commission included 85 Assistant Commissioners of Police elevated to Deputy Commissioners, 49 Chief Superintendents promoted to Assistant Commissioners, 245 Superintendents elevated to Chief Superintendents and 498 Deputy Superintendents promoted to Superintendents.
The Commission also approved the promotion of 3,218 officers to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police.
Among the other beneficiaries were Dr Ruth Oyinmearelu Okunbo, medical director of the MD Abubakar Police Hospital in Deidei and the ASR Police Reference Hospital in Utako, Abuja; Isah Adejoh of the Police Staff College, Jos; and Mannir Yusuf Gafai of the Kano State Police Command.
Congratulating the newly promoted officers, Argungu said their elevation should serve as motivation for greater commitment to their duties.
He stressed that higher ranks came with increased responsibilities, particularly in protecting lives and property, maintaining law and order, and improving service delivery.
The PSC chairman urged the officers to justify their promotions through professionalism, dedication and improved performance.
