Polish authorities have detained six people suspected of working for Russian intelligence and illegally supplying military components to Russia, with four of them charged with espionage.
Poland’s Internal Security Agency (ABW) said on Thursday that the suspects included five Polish nationals aged between 25 and 52 and a 37-year-old Russian woman.
A court ordered the detention of four suspects, including the Russian national, for three months, while the remaining two were placed under non-custodial preventive measures.
The agency said the group allegedly operated on behalf of Russian intelligence services and supplied Russia with significant quantities of components used in the production of ammunition and weapons systems.
According to investigators, the group operated across Poland, Lithuania and Russia from June 2023 to December 2025, purchasing the components and arranging their transportation into Russia’s Kaliningrad region.
The suspects allegedly used vehicles fitted with hidden compartments to move the goods across the Polish-Russian border. Some shipments were intercepted by Polish border guards.
The components included cartridge cases and projectiles, while the value of the goods purchased and illegally exported was estimated at more than two million Polish zlotys.
Poland’s coordinator of special services, Tomasz Siemoniak, said the operation was intended to circumvent restrictions on the supply of military-related materials to Russia.
He said the arrests were part of wider investigations into suspected espionage and sabotage activities, adding that nearly 100 people had been identified as suspects in such cases since January 2024.
The ABW said officers searched 21 locations in northern and western Poland between October 21 and November 2 as part of the investigation.
The agency said investigations were continuing to establish the full extent of the group’s activities.
