Ondo Police Arrest Two Robbers, Recover Guns

Police in Ondo State have arrested two men suspected of armed robbery in separate operations in Akure, recovering two locally made guns, the state police command has said.

The suspects, identified as 32-year-old Oliver Bamidele and 35-year-old Levis Prince, were arrested on October 13 and 19, respectively.

According to the police, Bamidele was arrested by operatives of the B Division Surveillance Patrol Team during a stop-and-search operation along Idanre Road in Akure on October 13.

A search reportedly led to the recovery of a cut-to-size locally made gun allegedly concealed on him.

“During preliminary questioning, he reportedly admitted ownership of the weapon.”

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said in a statement issued on Tuesday that investigations were ongoing to establish the source of the firearm and its intended use.

In a separate operation on October 19, police officers patrolling the Madam Do Good area of Oyemekun Road in Akure intercepted two people riding a blue TVS motorcycle.

The officers reportedly recovered another cut-to-size locally made pistol during a search. One of the individuals fled, while Prince was arrested.

The police said efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect. They added that investigations would establish the origin of the firearm and whether the suspects were linked to other criminal activities.

The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Felix Ohagwu, urged residents to support efforts to tackle armed robbery and other violent crimes.

The command said patrols, stop-and-search operations and intelligence-led policing would continue across the state.
