Man docked for allegedly buying stolen motorcycle

A 28-year-old man, Aliyu Usman, was on Wednesday arraigned before a Chief Magistrates’ Court, Wuse, Abuja, for allegedly buying a stolen motorcycle.

Usman, who resides in Mpape, Abuja, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecution Counsel, Catherine Okafor, told the court that the complainant, Yusuf Usman of Lake View Estate, Mabushi, reported the matter at Mabushi Police Station on Oct. 5.

Okafor said the complainant alleged that one Hassan Suleiman, who is now at large, stole his motorcycle worth  N300,000.

She said police investigation revealed that the defendant bought the stolen motorcycle from Suleiman for N25,000, knowing that it was stolen property.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 317 of the Penal Code.

Following an application for bail from the defendant’s counsel, the Senior Magistrate, Theresa Okwejie admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000, with one surety in like sum.

Okwejie said the surety must provide a valid means of identification and reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

She ordered the court registrar to verify the surety’s address and adjourned the matter until Oct. 28 for trial. (NAN)
