The Senior Special assistant on Public Communications and Social media to the FCT minister, Lere Olayinka, has criticized the Gen Z complaints on the country’s economic hardship.

Speaking in an interview aired by African Independent Television (AIT) on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, Lere said the young people begin to experience economic realities when they become adults and have to fend for themselves.

According to him, adulthood exposed them to responsibilities outside their parents’ shelter and provision.

He recounted his experience in journalism, recalling how he travelled long distances between Bauchi and Jos just to uplink reports and move VHS tapes to TV stations. In his own view, technology has made things easier and created new jobs for young people.

He also admonished Nigerians to quit the narrative of hunger in the country.

” There’s hunger. There’s hunger. People are building houses now, today as we are talking,” he said.

He also added that homelessness is not unique to Nigeria and exists even in developed nations, adding that the government’s role is to provide an enabling

environment.
