Edo State Government says construction work on the Gelegele Seaport Road, in Ovia North-East Local Government Area of the state will resume during the dry season to accelerate completion of the project.
The Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to Gov. Monday Okpebholo, Dr Patrick Ebojele, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday.
Ebojele said the road project had been awarded alongside several others, adding that the governor had visited the site several times to assess the level of work.
He explained that the heavy 2026 rainfall had slowed down construction activities across the state.
According to him, most contractors temporarily suspended major road construction activities during the rainy season, while some continued with drainage works.
He said the government is determined to take advantage of the dry season to ensure that contractors returned to their respective project sites.
“The Gelegele Road is not forgotten, neither has it been abandoned.
“The rains have only delayed work on the road,” he said.
Ebojele added that the governor had recently directed contractors to return to project sites and maximise the available dry-season period.
He expressed optimism that some road projects, particularly the Sapele Road axis, could be completed before the end of 2026.
The CPS urged residents to understand that the temporary slowdown in construction was due to weather conditions and not a lack of government commitment.
