Abia Health College Secures Accreditation For Two Programmes

The Abia State Government has announced the accreditation of Medical Laboratory Science and Dispensing Opticianry programmes at the Abia State College of Health Sciences and Management Technology, Aba.

The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, disclosed this while briefing journalists at Government House, Umuahia, saying the accreditation reflected ongoing reforms in the state’s health sector.

Kanu said the Ministry of Health, through its agencies, had sustained efforts to secure accreditation for academic programmes in state-owned health institutions.

He said the development demonstrated the government’s commitment to improving the quality of healthcare education and strengthening institutions responsible for training healthcare professionals.

In another development, Kanu announced that the state government had received a 40-foot container of medical equipment and supplies donated by the Ogbuka-Umekwe Hope Foundation, based in the United States.

He said the donation would support healthcare delivery, noting that some of the equipment was sophisticated and expensive.

The commissioner expressed the government’s appreciation to the foundation, saying the donation would support ongoing efforts to improve the state’s health sector.

Kanu also disclosed that a 19-year-old accident victim who recently underwent surgery was recovering well.

He said the patient was undergoing further recovery procedures, adding that the improvement in the patient’s condition was encouraging.

On public health surveillance, Kanu said no cases of diseases of public health importance were reported in Abia State between October 5 and 18.
