The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has fired back at the Anambra State Government over its warning against supporting Peter Obi in the 2027 presidential election, accusing Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration of being “madly obsessed” with the former Anambra governor.

NDC Director of New Media and Strategic Communications, Theo Abu Agada, made the remarks on Monday while reacting to a post by the Anambra government urging APGA supporters to resist Obi and the NDC.

The state government had described support for Obi as a betrayal of APGA and warned that voting for him in 2027 would amount to helping destroy the party.

“A vote for Peter Obi and the NDC is a vote to kill APGA,” the government said.

It also accused Obi of working against the party that produced him as governor.

“Since 2014, Obi has had one mission: to destroy the party that made him,” the post read.

But Agada dismissed the attack, accusing the Anambra government of resorting to political blackmail because it could not challenge Obi on his record in office.

“It is now clear, even to the blind, that the Anambra State Government is threatened by the growing popularity of our presidential candidate, H.E. Peter Obi, and the NDC in Anambra State and beyond,” he said.

“I understand this mad obsession.”

Agada also expressed confidence that the NDC would perform strongly in Anambra in the 2027 election.

“The NDC is going to win big in Anambra, and there is nothing Soludo and his minions in APGA can do about it,” he said.

“Since they cannot challenge H.E. Peter Obi on his governance record, they have resorted to cheap blackmail.”

The latest exchange deepens the political feud between Obi and the Anambra government ahead of the 2027 election.

Obi governed Anambra on the platform of APGA between 2006 and 2014 before leaving the party later that year.

In recent weeks, both sides have also traded claims over debts allegedly inherited from Obi’s administration, with the former governor insisting he left office without outstanding obligations while the state government has disputed his account.
