2027: Osun APC dumps Adeleke, sets up own campaign council for Tinubu.

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has set up a separate 168-member campaign council for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, amid disagreements over Governor Ademola Adeleke’s role in the campaign.

The move followed controversy over Adeleke’s recent inauguration of a 344-member Presidential Campaign Council in Osogbo, where he named himself the coordinator of Tinubu’s campaign in Osun State.

Adeleke, who has moved to the Accord Party, formed the council despite the absence of key APC leaders, including former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, the party’s governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, and its state chairman, Tajudeen Lawal.

In a statement on Monday, Lawal said the new council was established to mobilise support for Tinubu’s re-election and secure victory for APC candidates contesting National and State Assembly seats in the state.

Oyebamiji will serve as the Director-General of the new council, while Lawal will be the Deputy Director-General.
The council also includes the party’s three senatorial candidates, nine House of Representatives candidates, four former deputy governors, General Alani Akinrinade, Femi Fani-Kayode and other APC leaders.

Lawal said the party decided to establish its own council because Adeleke had reportedly stated that he would support Tinubu but would not campaign for other APC candidates.

The APC leadership said it would not accept that position, insisting that its members must work towards victory for the president and all the party’s candidates in the 2027 elections.

The development highlights growing disagreements within the Osun APC over Adeleke’s involvement in Tinubu’s re-election campaign.
