The Makinde-Daura Presidential Campaign Organisation (MDPCO) has raised the alarm over alleged plans by some officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to hand over millions of unclaimed Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to agents of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general election.

In a statement on Thursday, the campaign organisation urged INEC to immediately address the allegation, warning that any attempt to compromise the custody of unclaimed PVCs could undermine the credibility of the elections and pose a serious threat to Nigeria’s democracy.

The campaign organisation raised the alarm through a statement signed by its Director of Strategic Communications, Richard Ihediwa.

It also alleged that compromised electoral officials could facilitate the infiltration of polling units by unregistered persons using unclaimed PVCs to manipulate results in favour of the APC.

The campaign body said the allegations placed a “huge burden” on INEC to provide Nigerians with clear assurances on the security and custody of the cards.

“An unclaimed PVC must neither be a disposable property nor a political asset to the enemies of credible elections,” the statement said, insisting that such cards must remain “a strictly controlled electoral instrument” to prevent electoral fraud.

Stating that the ruling party had become jittery over what it described as growing nationwide support for its Seyi Makinde/Lawal Daura presidential ticket on the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) platform.

It challenged INEC to publish a state-by-state breakdown of all uncollected PVCs in its custody, including the exact quantity, and disclose the security protocols in place to prevent their unauthorised access, collection or transfer.

According to the campaign, “Nigerians do not need post-election explanations; they deserve pre-election transparency,” urging INEC to move beyond assurances and take concrete steps to guarantee the integrity of the electoral process.

The MDPCO also called on Nigerians to monitor activities at their polling units and report suspicious developments to security agencies and accredited election observers, while urging international observers to demand assurances from INEC over the issue.

“The 2027 general elections must not be an exercise in which Nigerians merely vote; it must be an election in which every legitimate vote is protected and every attempt to manufacture or manipulate votes is decisively resisted,” it said.

The campaign organisation warned that Nigerians would not accept results that fail to reflect their will and aspirations in the 2027 presidential election.
