2027: I have killed Obi’s political wave – Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that he has destroyed the political wave that propelled Peter Obi to prominence during the 2023 presidential election.

Wike said the popularity previously enjoyed by the former Anambra State governor had disappeared, insisting that Obi stood little chance of winning the 2027 presidential election.

The minister made the remarks on Thursday during his monthly media chat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

“All this so-called Obi kererenke doesn’t exist again. I have killed it,” Wike declared.

He argued that the political circumstances that enabled Obi to attract widespread support in 2023 had changed significantly.

Wike also dismissed the presidential ambition of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, describing him as a dramatist who had nothing meaningful to offer Nigerians.

“Nigerians know that Obi has nothing to offer, he is a dramatist. You were there when Soludo exposed him,” he said.

The former Rivers State governor further challenged Obi to demonstrate that he still commanded the financial and grassroots support associated with his previous presidential campaign.

“The Obi wave is dead and buried. How many people are contributing money for Obi today?” he asked.

Turning to Obi’s running mate, former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Wike acknowledged his political strength in Kano but questioned his influence across other parts of the North.

“I agree that Kwankwaso is very popular, but he ran in 2023 and won in Kano, fine, but what about the other northern states? What about the North-Central, what will happen there?” he queried.

Wike also criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, arguing that Nigerians had previously given him an opportunity to serve without seeing the results they expected.
