The Tinubu Movement for Sustainable Governance Foundation (TMSGF) says President Bola Tinubu may not tour the 36 states for his 2027 re-election campaign to enable him to focus on governance.
Mr Marcel Ngogbehei, Director-General of the group, also known as Tinubu Must Stay, gave the explanation at a news conference on Tuesday in Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the group is a political movement for continuity and uninterrupted national development.
According to the Director-General, Tinubu’s decision not to join the campaign train across the 36 states is to enable him to focus on governance.
Ngogbehei noted that one of the greatest challenges facing the country was balancing time for governance and time for electioneering.
“Once a president gets into office, just one year after, they start preparing for re-election and governance suffers.
“Because of the culture that has developed over time, governance is abandoned and electioneering takes over. So, President Tinubu has said, ‘I want to focus on governance.
“I want to keep an eye on operational activities and key things that I am doing. Let the people I have worked with go out there and do the work.
“And in some instances where I need to come in, I will come in.’ This is pure delegation of duty,” he said.
He said Tinubu could, however, go round the country if he wanted to, because he had been doing so, adding that Nigerians should understand.
“We are in what I will term a very difficult situation in this country where you need attention to details. So, let us understand with the president,” he said.
Ngogbehei noted that like every other country, Nigeria has its own challenges, adding that there was need to understand the complexity of the challenges to address them.
He said the group was not defending Tinubu as a person, but was looking at his bold economic policies and development initiatives while critically analysing them to highlight their benefits.
Ngogbehei blamed the country’s current economic challenges on the short-term impact of reforms introduced by an administration that inherited a bad economy, saying everything would take shape with time.
“We may not like Tinubu, but he has made bold and courageous moves through his reforms for the benefit of all Nigerians,” the Director-General said.
He said the country needed a bold, courageous and strong leader like Tinubu to turn things around positively.
Ngogbehei added that as a responsible group, the TMSGF would not attack any individual or political party, but would respect all while projecting Tinubu’s achievements and good policies.
“We are not going to use foul language to describe any politician. We are all Nigerians; we respect politicians across parties and at all levels.
“We are advocates of freedom of speech, expression, gathering, and peace and order in our activities, knowing that whatever you do has an effect on the man next to you.
“We are saying, come, let us have a sincere, honest and factual analysis of Tinubu’s policies and reforms and their long-term benefits.
“Our main objective is to educate Nigerians on the various policies and sustainable projects being undertaken by the administration in all sectors, including education, agriculture, healthcare, construction of coastal roads and security,” he said.(NAN)
