The African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council (ADC-PCC) has declared its candidate, Atiku Abubakar, the best choice for Nigeria in the January 16, 2027 presidential election, describing him as a pan-Nigerian leader capable of uniting the country and reviving its battered economy.
The campaign council also accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of promoting sectionalism, deepening national divisions and failing to address the economic hardship and insecurity confronting Nigerians.
The Director of Media and Publicity of the ADC-PCC, Kola Ologbondiyan, stated this in Abuja at the weekend while receiving the leadership of the Grassroots Mobilisation Network (GMN), led by its National Coordinator, Sadiq Adamu Lwafu.
Ologbondiyan said Atiku’s political relationships, family background and business interests reflected Nigeria’s diversity, arguing that his record demonstrated his capacity to lead across ethnic, religious and regional lines.
“In the last three years, Tinubu has been clannish in his approach to governance. His appointments, his policies, his body language—everything screams sectionalism and exclusion,” he said.
“Atiku Abubakar, on the other hand, is a natural Nigerian devoid of ethnic, religious or sectional inclination. He is a leader for all tribes and regions.”
He accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of exploiting the country’s ethnic and religious differences to retain power at the expense of national unity and citizens’ welfare.
“The APC has so much capitalised on our fault lines to divide the country. They don’t care about the welfare of the people as much as they can remain in power,” Ologbondiyan alleged.
He added: “No government in the history of our country has ever used divisive means to hold on to power more than the APC. But Nigerians are wiser now and ready to kick them out through the ballot.”
The ADC-PCC spokesman further described Atiku as the candidate best equipped to tackle Nigeria’s economic challenges, insisting that his policy proposals offered a clearer path to recovery.
“His track record speaks for itself. Nigeria is at a crossroads and needs Atiku for the task ahead. He is the only one with a clear blueprint for our economic recovery,” he said.
On fuel subsidy, Ologbondiyan said an Atiku-led government would restore the policy under a transparent framework designed to protect vulnerable Nigerians and stimulate production.
“Atiku is going to bring back subsidy in a transparent and well-managed manner that will directly benefit the poor and stimulate production,” he said.
Earlier, Lwafu said the GMN was embarking on a nationwide mobilisation campaign to rally support for Atiku and ensure the APC’s defeat at the polls.
He accused the Tinubu administration of worsening hardship and insecurity, alleging that democratic governance was increasingly giving way to authoritarianism.
“President Tinubu’s administration has made life so difficult for Nigerians. The hardship is too much. Nigerians are now living in fear of insecurity,” Lwafu said.
“The only man who can rescue Nigeria is Atiku Abubakar, and we are on a mission to ensure that the APC is thrown out of power through the ballot box next year.”
Lwafu also described the ADC as a credible opposition platform bringing together experienced politicians and patriotic Nigerians committed to national development.
He cited party leaders and political figures, including former Senate President David Mark, former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi, former Osun State governor Rauf Aregbesola, former Sokoto State governor Aminu Tambuwal and media entrepreneur Dele Momodu, among others, as evidence of the party’s strength.
Ologbondiyan commended GMN for its grassroots mobilisation efforts and pledged that the campaign council would work with organisations committed to ending what it described as APC misrule, restoring public confidence and rebuilding the country.
