Zamfara State’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) increased by N6.9bn to N32.3bn in 2025, up from N25.4bn in the previous year, the state Auditor-General, Abubakar Danmaliki, has said.

Despite the revenue growth, Danmaliki identified gaps in financial management across ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), including incomplete fixed asset registers, unretired advances and imprests, and weaknesses in stores and inventory records.

He disclosed this in Gusau while presenting the state’s 2025 audited financial statements and annual audit activity report.

Danmaliki said his office audited 98 MDAs during the year, examining their revenue and expenditure and issuing queries over identified irregularities. While some queries had been resolved, others remained outstanding.

He said the audit also uncovered issues relating to compliance with financial regulations, procurement laws and public expenditure management reforms.

The Auditor-General, however, said the state’s 2025 financial statements were prepared in line with the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) Accrual Basis and fairly presented Zamfara’s financial position as of December 31, 2025.

He noted improvements in expenditure control and budgetary discipline across the MDAs but urged accounting officers to respond promptly to audit queries and ensure compliance with financial regulations.

Danmaliki called on the government to sanction officials found to have breached financial rules and directed MDAs to maintain comprehensive fixed asset registers in line with IPSAS requirements.

He also recommended regular training for accounting and audit personnel to strengthen financial management and accountability.

The reports were presented in line with the Auditor-General’s constitutional mandate under Section 125(2) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, and Section 85 of the Zamfara State Audit Law 2021.

Danmaliki commended Governor Dauda Lawal for supporting his office and promoting transparency and accountability, while acknowledging the cooperation of the State House of Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee, the Ministry of Finance and the Office of the State Accountant-General.
