Tinubu Congratulates Modi On 25 Years In Power

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on marking 25 years of uninterrupted public leadership.

Tinubu described the milestone as a rare achievement in a democracy.

In a statement on Wednesday, Tinubu said Modi’s 25 years of service reflected the enduring confidence the Indian people had placed in his leadership.

Modi first assumed office in 2001 as Chief Minister of Gujarat, where he served for more than 12 years before becoming Prime Minister of India in 2014.

The president said Modi had demonstrated “vision and an unwavering commitment to development” throughout his 25 years in public office.

He cited the transformation of Gujarat and India’s emergence as one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing economies, alongside progress in infrastructure, digital public services, financial inclusion and innovation.

“Across these 25 years, Prime Minister Modi has led with vision and an unwavering commitment to development,” Tinubu said.

He added that Modi’s leadership had “lifted millions and inspired nations across the Global South.”

Tinubu also highlighted the strategic relationship between Nigeria and India, recalling Modi’s State Visit to Abuja in November 2024, during which Nigeria conferred on him the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger.

According to him, the visit strengthened bilateral cooperation in trade and investment, energy, defence and security, health, education and technology.

The President said Nigeria and India, as leading democracies of the Global South, shared a commitment to a “fairer, more inclusive and more representative international order.”

Tinubu wished Modi good health, strength and continued success in his service to the people of India.
