Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, has pushed back against the narrative of widespread poverty and hunger championed by Generation Z Nigerians, arguing that economic activities and construction remain robust.
Appearing on Africa Independent Television’s (AIT) Democracy Today programme, Olayinka addressed ongoing public discussions concerning the severe cost of living crisis, inflation, and economic reforms under the current administration.
While acknowledging public concerns regarding economic pressures, Olayinka questioned the absolute framing of the hardship narrative by younger demographics, pointing out visible indices of private development and ongoing construction across communities.
The remarks come amid an intensifying national conversation over the impact of federal economic policies, rising food prices, and shifting living standards for young Nigerians, as political stakeholders align positions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
