Abia State Governor Alex Otti has inaugurated the Labour Party (LP) Governorship Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections, charging members to pursue issue-based and peaceful campaigns.
Otti, who spoke on Monday at the Michael Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia, during the inauguration, said the forthcoming elections must be defined by ideas, performance and track records rather than intimidation or political violence.

He said he had directed security agencies during a recent State Security Council meeting to provide equal protection and a conducive environment for all contenders ahead of the elections.
Otti urged members of the campaign council to remain humble and see their appointments as a call to serve, rather than an elevation to positions of authority.
According to him, victory at the 2027 polls will ultimately be determined at the polling units, urging campaign council members and party stakeholders to return to their wards and polling units to mobilise support for the Labour Party.
The governor also called for unity among the Governor’s Campaign Council, individual candidates’ campaign teams and various support groups, stressing that their efforts must be coordinated to secure victory for the party across all elective positions.
Otti further announced plans to constitute an Election Advisory Council to provide strategic direction for the campaign.
He said the council would be headed by a former Deputy Governor of Abia State, Rt. Hon. Ude Oko Chukwu.
Speaking during the event, the newly inaugurated Director-General of the Campaign Council, Rt. Hon. Agwu U. Agwu, thanked Governor Otti for entrusting the responsibility to the team.
Agwu described the 2027 election as crucial to the people of Abia, saying it would determine whether the developmental gains of the past three years and the administration’s “New Abia Ideology” would be sustained.
