The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) is set to introduce a new fixture schedule that will see some league matches played on Friday nights, with early kick-offs also planned for Saturdays and Sundays.

The new format is expected to begin during matchday nine when Shooting Stars welcome Ranchers Bees to the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan.

The encounter has been fixed for Friday, October 16, with kick-off scheduled for 6pm.

For Shooting Stars, the fixture will mark their second Friday home game of the season. The Ibadan club previously played on a Friday during the opening matchday, recording a 2-1 victory over Inter Lagos.

The NPFL plans to gradually introduce early Saturday and Sunday matches as the season progresses.

The changes are part of efforts to give the domestic league a more attractive matchday experience and bring its scheduling closer to practices adopted by major football leagues around the world.

The introduction of night football is also expected to provide supporters with more opportunities to attend league matches outside the traditional weekend afternoon and evening periods.
