The governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Enugu State, Sir Chinyeaka Ohaa, has demanded justice for the slain member of the party, Nworie Christopher. The deceased hailed from Affa in Udi Local Government Area of the state.
A press release issued by Ohaa’s media aide, Sampson Ukwu, on Wednesday alleged that the deceased was shot by armed thugs during the violent attack during a gathering at Sir Christian Chinyeaka Ohaa’s campaign office in GRA, Enugu, on 10th October 2026.
Quoting it, “Despite tireless efforts by the party leadership to save his life, he passed away from the gunshot wounds.”
Ohaa, according to the release, led a high-powered delegation to the bereaved family to share in their grief.
Quoting Ohaa, “We strongly condemn the continuous pattern of political violence and intimidation directed against the NDC in Enugu State. From the armed attack on our ward meeting at Obuoffia in Nkanu West on 12th September 2026, where eight of our members sustained gunshot injuries, to the tear-gassing, shooting and brutalisation of our supporters at the airport, and the subsequent deadly attack at our campaign office on 10th October, the opposition has been under relentless assault. Now, one of our members is dead.
“This is no longer ordinary politics. It is a dangerous escalation that threatens the right of citizens to participate peacefully in the democratic process.”
Ohaa reiterated the need for violence-free campaigns. He also said life is sacrosanct.
In his words, “No election is worth a single drop of a citizen’s blood. Nworie Christopher went out to support a vision for a better Enugu. Today he is gone. His twin brother is left with an empty half of his world. His family is shattered. His mother is completely heartbroken. We will not be silenced by violence. We will not be intimidated. The blood of Nworie Christopher and all our injured members cries out for justice.”
He called on the Inspector-General of Police and all relevant security agencies to conduct a thorough, independent and transparent investigation into the attacks of 10th October and the earlier Obuoffia incident.
All those who planned, sponsored or carried out these attacks must be identified, arrested and prosecuted without fear or favour, he said.
Gov Peter Mbah had earlier in a broadcast demanded a through investigation into the increasing cases of attacks, mainly during opposition political activities in the state.
The Secretary to the State Government, Prof Chidiebere Onyia, had, during a press conference in Enugu, claimed that no life was lost during the shooting.
