Motorist trails suspected thieves, leads police to arrest in Ogun

A motorist’s vigilance has led to the arrest of a suspected thief and the recovery of a motorcycle and generator allegedly stolen in Itori, Ogun State.

The suspect, Adam Muhammed, was apprehended on Sunday, October 25, after the motorist spotted an unregistered tricycle transporting the items along the Onigbedu–Itori Road.

The Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed that the motorist became suspicious of the tricycle, which was conveying a grey Haojue Lady motorcycle and a Firman generator at about 7:30 a.m.

Rather than ignore the situation, he alerted the police while following the tricycle towards Complex Junction, Itori, in the direction of Papalanto.

Acting on the information, police operatives intercepted the vehicle.

However, two occupants attempted to escape, prompting a chase during which Muhammed was arrested. His accomplice fled.

Babaseyi said preliminary investigations linked the recovered motorcycle and generator to a reported theft in Itori.

The suspect remains in custody while detectives work to apprehend the fleeing accomplice and establish the circumstances of the incident.

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the motorist for his vigilance and praised the officers for responding promptly.

He urged residents to report suspicious activities, stressing that timely information could help prevent crime and protect property.

Police said investigations were ongoing.
