The Makinde/Daura Presidential Campaign Organisation (MDPCO) has rejected the N60 per litre fuel discount announced by the President Bola Tinubu administration.
It described it as a “deceitful” political stunt aimed at hoodwinking Nigerians ahead of the 2027 elections.
The campaign organisation, in a statement on Wednesday by its Director of Strategic Communications, Richard Ihediwa, said reducing the pump price of petrol from about N1,400 by just N60 was an insult to Nigerians struggling with the impact of the fuel price regime.
It questioned why the administration, which it accused of increasing petrol prices by as much as 733 per cent, would resort to what it described as an “arithmetic ratio in decrease” with a “teeny N60” reduction when Nigerians were expecting a substantial cut in the cost of fuel.
According to the MDPCO, the discount, which is limited to selected NNPC retail outlets and only for 30 days, demonstrated that the government was “bereft of solutions” and merely seeking to score political points as the 2027 elections approach.
The campaign also criticised the government’s offer to sell crude oil to domestic refineries at $80 per barrel, describing the arrangement as “distasteful and offensive” for an oil-producing country.
“Nigerians cannot be swayed by this act of deceit and failed media stunt to change their resolve to vote out the dishonest, insensitive and grossly inept Tinubu-led APC administration in January 2027,” Ihediwa said.
The MDPCO said Nigerians deserved an “impactful reduction” in petrol prices rather than what it called an attempt to “hoodwink citizens” ahead of the elections.
The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) urged voters to back the party’s presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde for what it described as an honest, resourceful and responsive government.
The campaign organisation said a Makinde administration would focus on effectively and transparently harnessing Nigeria’s natural resources for the benefit of citizens.
