Argentina football legend Lionel Messi has revealed that one of his biggest regrets in life is not learning English when he was younger.

The 39 year old said he had enough time to study the language as a child but failed to take the opportunity.

Messi spent more than 20 years at Barcelona before moving to Paris Saint Germain in France and later joining Inter Miami in the United States. He has never played in the English Premier League.

Speaking about his regret, Messi said he wished he had learned English earlier in life.

He explained that not knowing the language sometimes made it difficult for him to communicate with important and interesting people he met during his career.

According to the football star, he sometimes felt uncomfortable when he could not hold conversations with such people because of the language barrier.

Messi admitted that he often blamed himself for missing the opportunity to learn English when he was younger.

The eight time Ballon d’Or winner said he now encourages his children to take their education seriously and make good use of the opportunities available to them.

He noted that children do not always understand the importance of education when they are young but often realise its value as they grow older.

Messi added that his children have access to opportunities that were different from those available to him while growing up.

He stressed the importance of studying, getting a good education and preparing for the future.

The football legend’s comments highlight the importance of learning new skills and making the most of opportunities from an early age.
