The Human Resources Development Centre (HRDC), University of Lagos, says it will hold a national workshop to sensitise political party agents, security personnel and other stakeholders ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Chief Ben Onwudinjo, Programme Coordinator, HRDC, said this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday.

Onwudinjo said the six-day programme would run in four batches from Oct. 26 to Nov. 21, with the sessions designed to prepare participants for effective participation in the electoral process.

He said the target participants included political party agents, support groups, mobilisers, security and law enforcement personnel, uniformed organisations, stakeholders and members of the public.

According to him, personnel from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Department of State Services (DSS), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) were expected to participate.

He said personnel from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Nigeria Police and other relevant agencies were also expected to participate.

He said resource persons would include the Executive Chairmen of EFCC and ICPC, National Security Adviser, Director-General of DSS, Corps Marshal of FRSC, representatives of the Nigerian Bar Association, National Orientation Agency and YIAGA Africa.

Other resource persons, he said, would include Prof. Tony Onyishi, Prof. Peter Mbah, Prof. Benjamin Amujiri and Dr ThankGod Ikenegbu of the Department of Psychology, University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

Onwudinjo said the resource persons would address critical issues aimed at improving participants’ understanding of the electoral process and contributing to credible elections.

He said the programme would be delivered through secured online sessions, with lectures scheduled for Mondays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to noon and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., while Saturday sessions would run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

According to him, participants are required to pay a registration fee of N5,000 and complete the registration process through the HRDC online portal.

He said successful participants would receive accredited certificates from the University of Lagos upon completion of the programme.

Onwudinjo urged relevant stakeholders to mobilise eligible participants to take part in the workshop and improve their knowledge of emerging trends in electoral processes.

He said registration was ongoing through tinyurl.com/hrdcgeneralelections. (NAN)
