NewsOnline Nigeria reports that several people are feared dead after a helicopter reportedly crashed in Igbokoda, headquarters of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, on Monday.
The incident, which occurred on October 5, 2026, reportedly threw the coastal community into panic, with residents said to have scrambled for safety. Multiple reports have confirmed the crash, although casualty figures remain unverified. Blueprint Newspapers Limited
The exact number of people aboard the helicopter and the condition of possible survivors were not immediately known as of the time of filing this report.
A resident who confirmed the incident said, “Yes, it’s true. A helicopter just crashed now at Igbokoda, Ondo State.”

The Chairman of Ilaje Local Government Area, Maurice Oripelaye, has also confirmed the incident. He said the helicopter crashed in a swampy area close to the Nigerian Navy facility in Igbokoda, although the circumstances surrounding the crash remained unclear.
According to reports from the area, efforts were ongoing to reach the crash site and determine the extent of the damage and possible casualties.
Some reports said military equipment was found at the scene, while the aircraft was reportedly badly damaged or burnt. However, authorities had yet to officially confirm the identity or operator of the helicopter.
The Ondo State Police Command spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh, was initially reported to be unaware of the crash but said he would make inquiries. A later report from AIT said the police had confirmed the incident and appealed to residents to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information.
Igbokoda is a major commercial and riverine community in Ilaje, one of Ondo State’s oil-producing areas. Helicopters are frequently used for logistics and other operations around the coastal and offshore areas.
The identity of the helicopter, its destination, the number of people on board and the cause of the crash remained unconfirmed at the time of filing this report.
