…Urges Tinubu To Quit 2027 Race For Makinde

The Makinde-Daura Presidential Campaign Organisation (MDPCO) has described President Bola Tinubu’s presidential campaign flag-off in Kaduna as a “total flop,” alleging that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) failed to attract substantial attendance despite spending N2.3 trillion on mobilisation.

The organisation also accused Tinubu of recycling campaign promises, shifting responsibility for Nigeria’s economic hardship to the opposition and taking personal credit for inherited infrastructure projects.

In a statement on Saturday, the Director of Strategic Communications of the MDPCO, Richard Ihediwa, said the rally exposed what he described as the growing rejection of the President by Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general election.

“The Tinubu campaign flag-off, which turned a show of shame, is truth foretold,” the organisation said, insisting that the President had nothing convincing to offer Nigerians after more than three years in office.

It faulted Tinubu’s campaign message of “prosperity, continuity and progress,” arguing that the President failed to explain why Nigerians should endure the economic hardship that has characterised his administration since May 2023.

The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) campaign body also condemned the President’s alleged attempt to blame the opposition for widespread hunger and poverty, describing it as an evasion of responsibility for the country’s economic difficulties.

It further questioned Tinubu’s promise of a better future for Nigerian youths, citing unemployment, economic hardship and the detention of protesters, including minors, during the August 2024 protests against hunger.

On insecurity, the organisation challenged the President’s claims of progress in tackling violence in the North, questioning why he allegedly could not visit a project site during the Kaduna rally.

It also criticised the commissioning of a partially completed, inherited 88-kilometre section of the Abuja-Kaduna highway within the rally venue, arguing that the event could not be presented as the completion of the wider Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Expressway.

“President Tinubu cannot claim the whole when he is commissioning a part. He cannot turn an inherited project into personal glory,” the statement said.

The campaign organisation further alleged that the rally’s attendance was disappointing despite the huge mobilisation expenditure it claimed the APC deployed.

It argued that the alleged turnout demonstrated that voters could not be swayed by financial inducements, warning the ruling party against relying on money to secure electoral support in 2027.

The MDPCO also criticised the heavy security presence at the rally, interpreting it as a sign of the administration’s concern over public discontent.

It maintained that intimidation and the deployment of security personnel would not resolve the economic and security challenges confronting the country.

The organisation subsequently renewed its call on Tinubu to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race and support the flag bearer of the APM, Seyi Makinde.

According to Ihediwa, Makinde’s “Reset Nigeria”agenda offers an alternative to the APC administration.

However, the APC Presidential Campaign Council has since dismissed the opposition’s claims, accusing key opposition figures of fabricating and spreading false narratives in the media space about the Kaduna rally.
