ADC Crisis Proves Party Unfit To Govern, Says APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has questioned the African Democratic Congress (ADC)’s capacity to govern Nigeria after a Federal High Court judgment that nullified the leadership of the party led by former Senate President, David Mark.

The ruling party said ADC’s leadership crisis proves it cannot manage its internal affairs or be trusted with the responsibility of governing the country.

The APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, stated this in a press statement on Friday, while reacting to the judgment delivered by Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court, Abuja.

Morka described the judgment, which sacked the David Mark-led leadership and nullified its official actions, including primary election processes and outcomes, as a demonstration of the independence of the judiciary and the strength of the rule of law.

He also dismissed allegations linking the APC to the ADC leadership crisis, insisting that the ruling party was neither a party to the suit nor involved in the legal dispute.

The APC spokesman accused the Mark-led faction of selectively accepting judicial decisions, alleging that it celebrates the judiciary when rulings favour it but attacks the courts when decisions go against its interests.

He said the legal dispute was initiated by aggrieved ADC national officers who challenged what he described as the takeover of the party’s leadership by Mark and his associates.

Morka alleged that the takeover was driven by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar’s presidential ambition and carried out in violation of the ADC’s internal democracy.

He further accused the ADC leadership of shifting responsibility for its legal troubles to the APC and the judiciary rather than accepting the consequences of its actions.

The APC urged the faction to exercise its constitutional right of appeal if dissatisfied with the judgment instead of engaging in what it described as partisan attacks and rhetoric capable of inciting anarchy.

Morka said the APC and President Bola Tinubu’s administration remained committed to protecting democracy, upholding the rule of law and delivering good governance to Nigerians.
