An All Progressives Congress, APC, senatorial aspirant for Zamfara North, Sani Ahmed Shinkafi, has rejected the party’s primary election in the district, alleging irregularities in the exercise.
The dispute arose after conflicting declarations emerged from the primary, with the committee chairman reportedly declaring Senator Sahabi Alhaji Ya’u Kaura the winner, while another committee member announced Senator Tijjani Yahaya Kaura as the winner.
Shinkafi also denied reaching any consensus arrangement with Senator Tijjani Yahaya Kaura or any other aspirant ahead of the election.
He alleged that the exercise violated the APC primary election guidelines and the Electoral Act 2026, arguing that no credible voting process was conducted.

The aspirant called on the APC National Chairman, National Working Committee, NWC, and National Election Appeals Committee to nullify the exercise.
He also urged the party not to submit either of the disputed candidates' names to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
Shinkafi demanded a fresh direct primary across the four local government areas of Zamfara North, with INEC monitoring and a duly authorised committee appointed by the party’s NWC conducting the exercise.
He further threatened legal action against Senators Sahabi Ya’u Kaura and Tijjani Yahaya Kaura if the party failed to address his complaints.
