…Urges Youths To Support Makinde/Daura Ticket
The Director-General of the Makinde-Daura Presidential Campaign Organisation, Felix Hayat, has warned Nigerians against voting for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election, describing him as “a wrong product from the South West.”
Hayat, instead, urged the youths to vote for the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Seyi Makinde,
arguing that Makinde offered Nigerians a credible alternative capable of addressing the country’s security and developmental challenges.
The campaign DG spoke in Abuja on Tuesday during the official inauguration of the Makinde/Daura presidential campaign organisation.
Speaking shortly after the inauguration ceremony, Hayat urged Nigerian youths to reject religious, ethnic and regional sentiments and take ownership of their political future by supporting the APM candidate.
He said although every Nigerian had the constitutional right to aspire to the presidency, young people, particularly in the North and South-East, should not allow repeated presidential ambitions by older politicians to deny them opportunities for leadership.
Hayat, in a veiled reference to the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, urged voters to also reject a perpetual presidential candidate.
“Would they now fold their arms and allow one person who wants to be president for three times, even if he doesn’t get it, for four times, even if he doesn’t get it, will you fold your arms until you are also old? That means you don’t have a future,” he said.
The campaign DG also appealed to the North to support the South in completing what he described as an eight-year tenure, saying that while power rotation was not constitutionally mandated, there was a moral obligation to sustain it in the interest of national unity.
In another veiled reference, he flayed a promise by the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, to spend only a single term of four years if elected.
He questioned why the South-East, where Obi hailed from, should seek only four years in power when its young, educated and enterprising population was waiting for greater opportunities.
Hayat described Makinde and his running mate, Maman Daura, as a combination of tested Nigerians prepared to sacrifice for the country’s future.
He said Makinde’s record as governor of Oyo State and his expertise in security matters demonstrated his capacity to lead Nigeria out of its current challenges.
Hayat urged Nigerians, particularly young people, to resist political mobilisation based on religion, tribe and region, warning that they would bear the consequences of decisions made along such lines.
“Nobody is going to protect it for you,” Hyat said, stressing that the 2027 election should be seen as an opportunity for Nigerians to protect their own future and restore confidence in the country.
Also speaking at the event, the APM vice presidential candidate, Lawal Daura, vowed to stop any rigging attempts during the election, saying that the party would mobilise Nigerians at the grassroots and frustrate any attempt to manipulate the polls.
Daura said the reported 103 million registered voters as stated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), had made the 2027 election a major contest.
According to him, the Makinde/Daura ticket would seek victory by convincing voters with its programmes and the quality of its candidates.
Daura warned those who might be planning to rig the election that they should expect “a surprise,” insisting that the polls must be conducted strictly in line with the law and the Electoral Act.
The APM National Chairman, Yusuf Dantalle, urged party members to bury their differences and work as a united force to deliver the party’s president ticket.
Dantalle acknowledged what he described as the difficult task ahead, insisting however, that challenges should not be mistaken for impossibility.
According to him, the ability of members to manage their differences would determine whether Nigerians could trust them with the affairs of the country.
He urged the newly inaugurated officials to work with existing party structures and accommodate members with different levels of political experience, saying unity and collective action remained critical to transforming their political mobilisation into electoral victory.
