The Makinde-Daura Presidential Campaign Organisation (MDPCO) has warned that Nigeria is sliding towards total collapse under President Bola Tinubu, citing deepening poverty, mounting public debt, insecurity and a worsening education crisis.

The organisation urged Nigerians to reject Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, declaring that the “reset Nigeria” agenda of Allied Peoples Movement (APM) presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, offers the country a way out of its economic and social challenges.

In a statement on Monday, MDPCO’s Director of Strategic Communications, Richard Ihediwa, said an estimated 140 million Nigerians, representing 63 per cent of the population, were living in poverty, citing the World Bank’s April 2026 Nigeria Development Update.

It also cited a government report indicating that about 70 per cent of Nigerian children under 10 years cannot read or understand a simple sentence, describing the situation as a threat to the country’s future.

The organisation accused the APC administration of insensitivity to the suffering of Nigerians, alleging that government officials continued to flaunt their wealth while millions of citizens struggled with crushing economic hardship.

MDPCO said the country’s worsening economic conditions, weak public institutions, insecurity and declining public confidence were pushing Nigeria towards state failure.

It also expressed concern over Nigeria’s estimated $2.3 trillion infrastructure deficit, arguing that the government had failed to demonstrate the fiscal discipline, transparency and strategic investment required to address the challenge.

The campaign further condemned the country’s rising public debt, put at N166.7 trillion in the statement, accusing Tinubu of burdening future generations with unsustainable borrowing without corresponding improvements in citizens’ welfare.

It described the administration’s reported plan to secure an additional $1.5 billion World Bank loan as evidence of what it called the government’s excessive dependence on foreign borrowing.

“President Tinubu is burying Nigeria by instalment, saddling the nation with a debt burden her future generation won’t be able to pay,” the organisation alleged.

MDPCO warned that another four years under Tinubu could worsen the country’s economic difficulties, increase external financial pressures and raise concerns about Nigeria’s capacity to service its debts.

The campaign is organisation also questioned the President’s leadership capacity, alleging that his absence from the centre of governance had left the country at the mercy of unelected power brokers.

It urged Nigerians to seize the January 16, 2027 presidential election as an opportunity to determine the country’s future, calling for mass participation and vigilance against electoral manipulation.

According to the organisation, Makinde’s reset Nigeria agenda offers a framework for transparent, inclusive and competent governance, with emphasis on economic growth, security, education and the effective use of Nigeria’s productive resources.

“Nigeria needs a total reset now,” the statement declared, urging voters to support Makinde as the next president.

The organisation maintained that only a change in leadership and a more accountable approach to governance could reverse the country’s worsening economic and social conditions.
