At least 10 passengers were injured in a multiple-vehicle crash on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos on Wednesday, while emergency responders prevented a possible train collision after a commercial bus broke down on a railway track at Ilupeju Bypass.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said the bridge accident occurred on Wednesday morning when a commercial bus stopped to repair a faulty tyre and was subsequently hit by another bus.
A trailer then rammed into the second bus before fleeing the scene.
LASEMA said emergency responders administered first aid to the injured passengers before evacuating them to hospital for further treatment.
The affected section of the bridge was subsequently cleared, allowing traffic to resume.
In a separate incident at Ilupeju Bypass, emergency responders removed a broken-down commercial bus from a railway track using a light tow truck, preventing a potential collision with an approaching train.
The agency said its response team was deployed to manage the situation and ensure the bus was removed from the track.
LASEMA advised motorists against carrying out roadside repairs on highways and bridges, urging them to maintain their vehicles regularly to reduce the risk of accidents.
The agency also encouraged residents requiring emergency assistance to call its emergency hotlines on 767 or 112.
